Peter is a postdoctoral research associate at Newcastle University, under the supervision of Prof. Mike Briggs. He is currently investigating the disease mechanisms involved in multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED), and trialing novel therapies for MED in cell and animal models.
In RUBICON, Peter visited the laboratory of Prof. John Bateman and Dr. Shireen Lamande at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia. There he utilised cell and animal models of inherited bone disorders, to determine whether treatment with a repurposed drug can ameliorate the disease phenotype. This investigation will indicate whether this drug may represent a candidate treatment for related connective-tissue disorders.
