Isabella Baldini

  • Early Stage Researcher, University of L’Aquila, Italy
  • WP2/Task 2.3: Description of clinical, genetic mechanistic factors for IVD in genetic mouse models
  • Secondment to HKU, May-June 2019

Isabella is a graduate student in Medical Biotechnology and a research fellow in the Bone Biopathology Laboratory headed by Professor Anna Maria Teti at the University of L’Aquila, Italy. She has expertise on mouse osteoblast cultures and their phenotyping. Her skills also cover molecular biology techniques, in vivo studies and the evaluation of mouse bone phenotype by µCT and histomorphometry. Isabella is currently involved in studies aimed at investigating the stem phenotype of dormant breast cancer cells and their interaction with the endosteal niche.

Within the RUBICON exchange programme, she visited Prof. Danny Chan, LKS Faculty of Medicine, School of Biomedical Science (HKUMed), in Hong Kong. In this period, she was trained in the main assay used to study intervertebral disc degeneration (IVD) in genetic skeletal disease.
